Westermann and Barcello: ‘We Brought Obradoiro Back to the ACB, Where It Belongs

The return of Monbus Obradoiro to the ACB continues to spark celebrations in Santiago. After a formal reception at the Pazo de Raxoi hosted by the Xunta de Galicia, Léo Westermann and Barcello voiced the joy in the locker room over a promotion that has brought smiles back to Obradoiro fans.

Westermann described the past few days as “amazing,” saying the team has been in a true party atmosphere with supporters. “Since Friday, we’ve been celebrating with the fans. It’s always great to see people happy and the supporters delighted,” said the French point guard, emphasizing the importance of savoring such a moment. “I’m very happy to be with them and enjoy it.”

Barcello echoed those sentiments, highlighting the team’s gratitude toward the city and everyone who backed the club throughout the season. “We’re happy and thankful for the support from the city, the front office, the coaches, and everyone. Everyone came together this year, and we’ve taken Obradoiro back to the ACB, where it belongs,” he stated.

For Westermann, one of the season’s most memorable images was seeing the arena packed during the decisive stretch. “We had a great season, but they supported us in everything. Seeing the arena full for the last five home games and seeing smiles on their faces—especially the kids—is something special,” he noted.

Barcello also recalled the pain of relegation nearly two years ago and how this promotion helps heal that emotional wound for the fanbase. “Watching the videos from the relegation and seeing how the fans’ hearts were broken… It was great to see the circle close and feel people’s hearts again. It was a good feeling for everyone,” he said.

When asked about the future and what message they would send to fans ahead of the upcoming ACB season, both players agreed to put aside any predictions for now. “We’re at a point where we just try to enjoy. We’ll spend a few more days together. The next season will come when it comes. The hardest part is already done,” Westermann explained.

Barcello reinforced that idea, urging everyone to focus on celebrating: “Let’s enjoy this week with the guys before they leave. We’ll see what the future brings.”
