Former Russian national team forward Alexei Tereshchenko shared his thoughts on whether he will follow the 2026 IIHF World Championship.
The tournament will take place from May 15 to 31 in Zurich and Fribourg.
“It’s not interesting yet because I have work with the Russian U20 national team and the Gagarin Cup finals. Of course, I will watch certain matches of the championship. It’s clear that the Russian national team is not at the tournament – that’s very sad. But I still need to see how teams are rebuilding and how they play.
I need to watch the top teams – Canada, the USA, Finland, Sweden. Even looking at the junior championship, the North American teams got eliminated. It’s all very, very interesting,” Tereshchenko said.
The Russian national team has been suspended from IIHF-sanctioned tournaments since 2022.
Fetisov on the 2026 World Championship: “I don’t even think about watching. And I don’t advise anyone to. I don’t know why anyone would want to, when we’ve been cynically kicked out of everywhere. What can we see there?”
