Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique defended his team’s quality after a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich secured their place in the Champions League final. Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Spaniard stood by his earlier bold claim about PSG being the best side in the world.
“I said at the end of the league phase that there was no one better than us. Everyone criticized me. Everyone said PSG was this or that… I wasn’t wrong,” Enrique stated. “For me, Bayern are at our level, and Arsenal are one of the best teams this season. They can still win the Premier League.”
He also praised Bayern’s quality: “In the last three years, they have been the best team I’ve faced. They have many quality players and a very clear playing style. We showed what kind of team we are. I should note that we haven’t been able to field the same starting eleven that won the Champions League. We haven’t been able to put the same lineup together.”
Reflecting on reaching a second consecutive Champions League final, Enrique said: “Now it’s time to enjoy it. It was an incredible game. We started well, with a goal. We were calmer. We’re not used to defending for so long, but we showed the team we are. Reaching back-to-back Champions League finals shows the level of this squad. We are very happy.”
